Ready to race/rally?
Then there are a few things that you must do:
First, you must be a member of a Car Club - click the "JOIN" tab at the top to begin the application process.
Second, you must apply for a MotorSport New Zealand Licence - There are several types of Licences you can apply for:

Temporary M Grade (old Day licence) - This Licence is restricted for use at one (1) Clubsport Event e.g. Dual Sprints, Rally sprints, Hillclimbs. The applicant will have to sit a simple test based on the information contained in the 'Drivers Guide' booklet these are available from Steward of the race meeting you are attending. This means that the Steward will be required to administer the test for Temp M Grade at the event. A pass on the 'Drivers Guide Examination with remain valid for three (3) months. For subsequent issues of Temporary M Grade Licences the applicant providing evidence of a pass result within the three (3) months may be exempt from retaking the examination.

M Grade (old Clubsport) – Requires completion of the Competition Licence Application Form (click on link below) and gaining a pass result in a simple test based on the information contained in the 'Driver Guide' booklet or providing evidence of a pass result within the preceding three (3) months. This is a one (1) year licence. This type of Licence restricts you to only Clubsport Events e.g. Dual Sprints, Rally Sprints, Hillclimbs.

C Grade (old National Race) – There are two C Grade categories C1 and C2. Initially new applications will be issued a C1 Licence. Required completion of the Competition Licence Application Form and the gaining a pass in a C Grade Licence examination. This is a 1 year licence. You can compete in Clubsport Event or National Race Events (excludes Rally Events and events run under an International Permit). Further information about the C2 Grade Licence can be found in the Motorsport New Zealand Manual 35.

R Grade (old National Rally) – There are two R Grade categories R1 and R2. Initially new applications will be issued a R1 Licence. Required completion of the Competition Licence Application Form and the gaining a pass in a R Grade Licence examination. This is a 1 year licence. You can compete in Clubsport Event or National Rally Events (excludes Race Events and events run under an International Permit).
